A few words about Santorini Island

Santorini is one of the islands of the Cyclades. It is located in the Aegean Sea (further south than Mykonos) and forms a gigantic lagoon, offering a breathtaking view. You can admire it from the cities located in the heights of the mountain.

Explore Santorini by kayak

You can't visit Santorini without taking advantage of the many opportunities it offers for water sports. My advice, explore this beautiful island by kayak! The weather is beautiful and besides, you have the possibility to rent kayaks by the hour or by the day, or even learn to navigate! 

Exploring Santorini by kayak will give you a unique experience because you will have the opportunity to discover magical places that you can't reach on foot or by boat.


Discover the villages of Oia and Fira

Your visit to Santorini should include a visit to the villages: Oia and Fira. In Oia (pronounced "i-a") you will be able to admire the beautiful houses, walk through the narrow white streets, visit the blue domed churches, browse the stores and art galleries and of course, eat very well!

If you visit Oia as a couple, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy an ultra romantic moment with your partner while watching the sunset. This village is particularly famous for that!  If you don't want to rent a car or if you prefer to take a guided tour, look on this site to book a tour of the island.

Fira is the capital of the island that you must absolutely visit! There you will find museums, restaurants and stores as well as luxury hotels with a view of the Caldeira.

Fira is also the perfect village to enjoy the nightlife in Santorini because it offers a wide range of bars and night clubs. Ideal for fun when you come to visit Santorini!

Walking along the coast between Oia and Fira

Walking along the coast between Oia and Fira will allow you to discover landscapes of incredible beauty. Moreover, the path is very accessible. However, I advise you to do this hike early in the morning because during the day it is very hot, or at the end of the day if you prefer, to arrive in Oia at sunset. 

Don't forget to bring a bottle of water with you before leaving for the adventure!

Excursion to the Santorini volcano and bathing in the thermal springs

A trip to Santorini deserves an exploration of the island of Nea Kameni where there is still an active volcano. Departure is by boat or by caique and the trip takes about 30 minutes. You can even book a day cruise to take a shower while discovering the volcanoes.

After visiting the volcano you can enjoy a good swim in the hot springs (whose temperature can reach 35 degrees) of Palea Kamini. 

Visit Akrotiri, a prehistoric city

To visit Santorini is also to visit the prehistoric city of Akrotiri. During a volcanic eruption in 1613 B.C., this ancient city was buried under the ashes and was only discovered in 1967.

In Akrotiri you will discover potteries, streets and buildings that are 4000 years old!

Visit Santorini while lounging in Red Beach

Close to the village of Akrotiri is the Red beach which owes its name to its red cliffs. Swimming is very pleasant there, but unfortunately the heat and the large number of tourists can sometimes prevent you from enjoying it.

I still advise you to go to Red Beach because you won't see this kind of beach everywhere! To discover when you visit Santorini.

Taste the local specialties

Tasting local specialties should be part of your trip to Santorini. Indeed, this island is very famous for its gastronomy. On the menu: Domatokeftedes (fried tomato dumplings), fava (mashed yellow lentils), white eggplant, Greek salad, and of course fresh fish! 

If you come to Santorini as a couple, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a good romantic dinner after contemplating the sunset as a couple.

Visit Santorini to admire the sunset in the sea

The sunset is particularly beautiful in Santorini. The colors are even more splendid at this time of the day. I therefore advise you not to miss this wonderful sight during your stay.  

However, you should know that thousands of tourists come to watch this famous sunset, especially in the village of Oia. It is thus necessary to arrive well in advance to admire it.

Other things to do in Santorini

Apart from my top 10 must-do's, there is a lot to do in Santorini. There is no shortage of activities and there really is something for every budget! 

For example, you can treat yourself to a private guided tour with a local expert guide, a photo session with a private vacation photographer, a scuba diving course, a flyboarding session or kitesurfing lessons.

 If your budget allows, you can even take a helicopter tour or enjoy a private cruise. 

And don't forget that you can always rent jet skis and docks. In short, you've got it, there's no room for boredom when you come to visit Santorini, so pack your bags!
